3D Character and Environment Artist:
3D character artists are responsible for working from concept art to model characters, creatures, equipment, etc. Environment artists are responsible for working from concept art to model environments, including terrain, foliage, buildings, etc.
Qualities we look for: We are looking for candidates who are eager and excited to work at Blizzard. Candidates must have a solid grasp of modeling and texturing a diverse visual range of characters, creatures, and environments. It is essential that candidates have a thorough understanding of form, structure, color, and light for both 2D and 3D art assets. Character and environment artists must possess skills in modeling and texturing using the latest tools such as Maya, 3DS Max, Photoshop, etc.
How to get in: You will need a strong foundation in traditional art and the ability to visualize work in 3D computer media. We want people who can conceptualize, draw, and render their ideas with ease and polish. For character artists, portfolios should emphasize pieces that really communicate a character's attitude and style. Environment artists must demonstrate modeling and texturing assets for a diverse visual range of environments. Character and environment artists must demonstrate an exceptional understanding of proportion along with an eye for form, shape, structure, and silhouette. A superior eye for light, shade, color, and detail in creating texture maps is also needed, as is knowledge in a 3D software application such as 3DS Max or Maya.
