Lead Engine Programmer

The World of Warcraft team is looking for an individual to help lead the engine programming team. This team is responsible for developing and overseeing all engine-related features for World of Warcraft.

Responsibilities:

  • Develop the technology plan and oversee all engine development for World of Warcraft.
  • Work with production staff and other leads to establish engineering tasks and subsequent schedule requirements.
  • Manage the engine team to meet all established goals and requirements.
  • Review and approve all completed engineering tasks in collaboration with the production staff and other leads.
  • Ensure that that the engine team adheres to established coding standards and maintains efficient coding practices.
  • Evaluate and mentor all programmers on the engine team.
  • Provide critical analysis of core engine technology and development practices with the goal of improving game quality and team efficiency and fostering a positive working environment.
  • Serve as an active partner in the team's leadership.
  • Perform research to acquire new knowledge necessary to perform assigned tasks and maintain the technological evolution of the game.
  • Interface with members of external teams on inter-departmental assignments, and ensure that all technology interests and policies are properly represented and maintained through the course of development.
  • Maintain familiarity of the game's design, both for the live product and for all on-going expansions.

Requirements:

  • Current status of at least senior software engineer
  • Leadership potential or previous leadership experience
  • Strong 3D programming skills and a proven aptitude for technical design
  • C/C++ proficiency
  • Experience in the design and implementation of game systems, including AI, camera, rendering, UI, FX, game object management, database management, and online networking
  • Comfort level working within (and adding to) an established code framework
  • Expertise in 3D math, physics, and rendering
  • Experience with MMORPG development
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills
