How to Get a Job at Blizzard Entertainment

Blizzard responds to the thousands of letters we receive asking how to crack into the gaming industry. Now you can learn what it takes to work for a leading software developer like Blizzard Entertainment!

Have you ever considered cracking into the gaming industry? Here is some information that is more important than a StarCraft Gas Mine!

How to Get a Job at Blizzard Entertainment

Blizzard receives hundreds of applications every year, and standing out from the pack requires both excellent qualifications and a polished resume. This guide is intended to give some suggestions on how to best present yourself to maximize your chances of making it to the next step of the hiring process.

The Basics
The first step to getting hired is simply making the decision that you want to work in the games industry in general and at Blizzard in particular. Developing, supporting, and maintaining games can be very rewarding, particularly if you have a passion for gaming, but it also makes for a demanding career. Browse the job listings on our website, and if you find an opening that appeals to you, start preparing your materials to submit.

Every good application starts with a cover letter and a resume. There are many print and online resources available to help you prepare these documents. Essentially, the resume should include your name, mailing address, email address, phone number, work experience, educational experience, and any other qualifications you want to highlight. Both the resume and cover letter should be submitted via email. Please keep in mind that the appearance of these documents -- their formatting and layout, how easy they are to read -- can also serve as in indication of your qualities as a potential employee.

For artists, the portfolio is the single most important part of your application. Pick a few high-quality pieces that effectively demonstrate your skills. Your portfolio can be attached electronically to your submission or sent in separately. If you decide to mail it to us, please be aware that we can't return any materials submitted -- send copies rather than originals.

Depending on the position you are applying for, you may need to submit additional materials, such as code samples. Refer to the specific posting for details about what materials you will need to provide and how to submit them.

Information specific to positions in each discipline can be found in Basic Tips for Resume/Demo Submission.
