Submissions
  1. How many files can I attach to my submission?
    • One! System limitations of the contest only allow one render/file to be attached through the submission field at a time.
  2. What file formats do you accept?
    • We accept .jpeg, .gif, .bmp, .tiff, .psd, or .eps
  3. What is the maximum file size?
    • Maximum File size is 5 MB (Do not go over or your submission will not be accepted)
  4. Can I mail in my demo reel or does my artwork that I submitted to your job postings qualify me for this contest too?
    • NO HARDCOPY MAILED SUBMISSIONS. This is an online contest only and hardcopy artwork (DVD, VHS etc.,) mailed to Blizzard or submissions emailed to our job postings do not qualify for this contest.
  5. Will I be able to use my artwork submission for other purposes than this contest?
    • While your art submissions become the property of Blizzard Entertainment in consideration as part of your entry into the contest, you may use your entry materials to promote yourself and your business, including the right for you to be known as the author of your art submission.

Multiple Submissions
  1. Are multiple submissions of different artwork allowed?
    • Multiple submissions of DIFFERENT artwork are allowed, but due to system limitations of the contest, you will have to fill out the "Submission Page" form each time you have another submission to make (that means you have the chance to win more than one prize!).
  2. Can I submit more than one submission of the SAME artwork?
    • No. Each separate entry requires that you submit a different original work of digital art as part of that entry into the contest. You cannot use the same original work of digital art for more than one entry into the contest
  3. Can I submit a 2D concept and then my 3D model of that concept?
    • If you want to submit a 2D Concept of your 3D artwork as well — go for it! Make sure you inform us in the "comments" section when you are submitting it. Note — you will have to fill out the submission form for each submission.
  4. What do I do when my artwork belongs in both character and environment subcategories?
    • We recommend submitting the whole piece of artwork under "environments". If your character is amazing, pull it out of the environment and submit your character separately under "characters".
  5. Will submitting the same artwork over and over increase my chance of winning?
    • No. Do not submit the exact same artwork in the same angle/pose multiple times. It does NOT increase your chances of winning.

Comments Section
  1. Do I need to add a comment with my submission?
    • No — only if you want to. This section gives you the chance to tell us how you made your art. Keep it brief.
    • You can also let us know that your 2D Concept submission is also submitted as a 3D incarnation as well.

Naming your Artwork
  1. Why name my artwork?
    • Sometimes artists like to name their work!
  2. Can I name my artwork a lewd name?
    • If you give your artwork a lewd name, we will have to omit your entry unfortunately (see "rules").

Eligible Countries
  1. Why isn't every country included in this contest?
    • For this year's contest, we have a limited number of countries eligible to participate. We feel it is so important to include as many opportunities as possible for our fans from around the world, therefore next year's contest hope to invite even more countries to participate!

Animators
  1. Why aren't animators eligible to participate in this contest?
    • Unfortunately this contest isn't designed for Animators to participate. Stay tuned though because we will have a contest for you in the near future too!

Polygon Count
  1. Are most of the Prize Packages awarded to Low Poly artwork?
    • A majority of the Prize Packages in this contest will be awarded to artists who can create amazing Low-Polygon artwork. High-poly submissions only come into play in the Cinematics Category.
  2. Why is the poly count so low for most of the contest?
    • Because those polygonal counts are the parameters we use to create our art (unless you are with our Cinematics team). We are big fans of great artists who can create gorgeous art within low polygon parameters therefore we want to encourage you to flex your lower polygon skills with us!
  3. May I do higher resolution work?
    • Sure — we love high polygon work too — and our great cinematics team has a lot of high polygon work to refer to. Have fun making Hi-Res art with any tool you desire (ZBrush, Maya etc.)!

Environment Artists and Character Artists
  1. What if all I like to create is Character art?
    • We know that many of you love to design and create the supreme Character — but have you tried Environments?! Have fun with environments as well as characters and surprise yourself at how good you are.

Replicate, Innovate, or Original?
  1. What kind of art is Blizzard looking for?
    • Replication: If your art is a model or concept of a character or environment we have created within our 3 universes — make it inspiringly good.
    • Innovation: If your art is a twist or innovation on a character or environment we have created within our 3 universes — don't forget to make that twist noticeable and relevant! Give your artwork your personal flair.
    • Original: Do you have an original idea? Is there a character or environment you have designed from scratch by yourself that you feel would look amazing in one of our 3 universes? Go for it! We find it exciting to see what you think would look cool in our universes!

Original Work
  1. What is Original Work and what does that mean in this contest?
    • No matter what, this work must be made from scratch by you! No helpers.
    • And, you must "own" the work that you submit! Please don't submit work that you prepared for an employer, as most employers retain rights in the work that you prepare on their behalf.
    • We prefer you to be inspired by our art in the Diablo, StarCraft, and Warcraft Universes for this contest.
  2. Can I submit my team's work?
    • Please do not submit work that has been made by a team working on one submission — this must be all your own work!
  3. I specialize as a texture artist or lighting artist. Can I just show you those skills?
    • Creating only textures and/or lighting a friend's model will not qualify you to win the Secondary or Grand Prizes. For 3D submissions, you have to model, texture, and light your own 3D character or 3D environment yourself!
  4. What about submitting a 2D Sketch?
    • A 2D Sketch is great, and we also like to see painted work as well!

  3. Am I supposed to replicate the art that you have on the guidelines pages?
    • No. Those pieces of art are there as examples to inspire you.

  1. Can I really get cash instead of my Prize?
    • If you are a Grand Prize Package Winner, you may receive cash in lieu of your Grand Prize Package. Please see "Rules" for more details.
  2. Can I win more than one Prize?
    • Yes — you have the ability to win two Secondary Prize Packages and one Grand Prize Package.

Categories and Subcategories
  1. What categories will most people create art for in this contest?
    • We might see more Warcraft art as well as character art. If you want a better chance at the prizes, try out the other categories and don't forget environments — there is a lot of cool art to be created in environments!
    • Note — if you enter your artwork into the categories with the least number of entrants, odds are you will increase your chances of winning!
  2. What is a Category?
